Three years ago, my friend Demetrius had a severe stroke and was told he would never walk or talk again. He now does both. 

Demetrius has always been a self-starter. Through his recovery, he wanted to reach his goals faster. He didn't want people to talk down to him or ignore him. He was eager to regain his independence and connect with loved ones again. 

He also he craved more one-on-one conversation time so he could express himself beyond his voice exercises. He wanted to explore what else was possible in his life.

I supported Demetrius' goals but as his care partner, my days were already crammed to capacity. Our lives were filled with appointments, homework, recovery, and so many tasks -- not to mention the emotional toll of being his primary support person. 

We knew it was time to find more conversation support.

When we couldn't find a service to help, I decided to build AphasiaPals so that others could benefit from it, too.
