There's more
to life than
vocal exercises!
Aphasia makes it harder to speak, but underneath, you're still you. Because your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter.
You've got style. Personality. Stuff you want to talk about.
At AphasiaPals, that's what we're here for. We offer hurry-free conversation practice on your terms.
Whether you want to have a good laugh, practice connecting with loved ones, or work towards life goals, AphasiaPals conversations are your time to talk about what interests you.

Made by members of the
Aphasia community
AphasiaPals was developed by Janu and Demetrius in response to a real aphasia community need.
As part of his recovery from a stroke, Demetrius started asking for more individual conversation time. As a self-starter, he wanted to make more progress on his recovery and work towards his personal goal of reconnecting with family. He also craved conversations where he got to choose what to talk about.
After realizing the need for conversation support beyond what care partners may be able to provide, Janu created AphasiaPals. It's a quality resource to support the specific needs of people with aphasia.

It's never easy to try something new.
That's why AphasiaPals matches you with a conversation companion who is trained in aphasia-friendly communication.
They're here to make conversation as easy, rewarding, and low-pressure as possible.
Aphasia-friendly
companions
Each AphasiaPals conversation is 30 minutes long. That's long enough to warm up and have a good chat without it being too tiring.
Conversations are structured with a short warm up followed by an opportunity to choose what you want to talk about.
You can show up without preparing anything. Your companion will start the conversation, follow your lead, and support you through any moments that may feel frustrating.
Structured sessions
Imagine making a phone call without worrying about it. Telling a story. Speaking up for yourself.
With consistent practice, you can become a more confident communicator.

Building Something People Believe In
Quotes may be lightly edited for clarity while preserving the speaker’s meaning.
“Having aphasia is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Learning to live with aphasia by ourselves is tiring to say the least, especially the one with aphasia and their family.
AphasiaPals Meet and Greet is a wonderful organisation, letting everyone know they are not only with their aphasia.”
— Fred Reader
Still have questions?
“People talking to me, I want that. I think talking is key.
More to me, talking is key.”
— Demetrius Moreno
